WHY MEMBERSHIP MATTERS
SISCC is a survivor-led coalition. Our strength comes from the people who join us — survivors, advocates, organizations, and supporters who believe every student deserves to be safe. Membership gives you a direct role in shaping our advocacy, accessing our resources, and building a community of people committed to change.
Membership Tiers
FIND YOUR PLACE
Survivor Member
Per year
Survivor Membership is for individuals who identify as survivors of abuse, neglect, discrimination, coercion, educational harm, or related experiences within Canadian independent, private, faith-based, or alternative schools.
- Participation in Annual General Meetings, Special Meetings, consultations, committees, strategic planning, and organizational activities
- Opportunities to help shape advocacy priorities, campaigns, services, and policy recommendations
- The ability to submit proposals and recommendations for consideration to the Board of Directors
- Access to organizational updates, reports, research, and governance information
- Opportunities to contribute lived experience to research and advocacy
- To have experiences reflected anonymously in reports, government submissions, public education, and policy work, where consent has been provided
- Privacy-conscious and trauma-informed handling of survivor information
- Access to reduced-fee, waived-fee, or hardship provisions where financial barriers exist
- One vote on matters submitted to Survivor Members by the Board of Directors
Supporting Member
Per year
Supporting Membership is for individuals who support the mission and objectives of SISCC but do not identify as survivors. This class may include family members, professionals, advocates, former school staff, community members, and others who want to contribute to the Coalition's work.
- Participation in Annual General Meetings and organizational activities
- Opportunities to serve on committees and contribute to strategic planning
- Invitations to consultations, educational initiatives, campaigns, and community events
- The ability to submit proposals, recommendations, and concerns for consideration
- Access to organizational updates, reports, and governance information
- Opportunities to contribute professional knowledge, research, advocacy, communications, fundraising, or other skills
- A meaningful role in supporting survivor-led policy reform, public education, and institutional accountability
Organization Member
Per year
For non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and community organizations that align with SISCC's mission and want to formally support our work.
- Organizational listing on SISCC website
- Collaborative advocacy opportunities
- Access to SISCC research and reports
- Connection to a broader network working to improve accountability and child protection in independent schools
- The ability to contribute organizational expertise, professional resources, and community knowledge
- Participation in a safe, respectful, inclusive, and survivor-centred environment
